Although a month later than
Although a month later than originally planned, the Hatsford Targa Road Rally will be running on Sunday 13th September. The competition will be much the same as in the previous two years, but we AND YOU will have to take added precautions because of the coronavirus and associated pandemic. It is essential that you read and understand page 3 of the regs BEFORE you enter.
As we expect demand for entries to be high, we suggest you enter early. Also, be aware that entries that are not completed fully will not be accepted – you must have a driver and navigator and a car. TBA is not someone we know and nor is it a make and model of a car that we’ve heard of. One change of driver or navigator or car will be permitted; if more, then that entry will go to the back of the reserve list. That is only fair on those crews who are organised. The ASWMC Targa Championship has been abandoned, but the Cotswold Championship is still running (at the time of writing), so don’t delay with your entries. If you cannot enter or have missed the boat, we really do need a lot of marshals to run the event successfully. Entries who supply a marshal will get a cashback on the day. See the regs for details of that and the contact details of the Chief Marshals who would love to hear from you.
The entry filled is less than an hour, and entries have closed.

The navigational scatter provides an
I hope you enjoyed you all enjoyed your run around West Herefordshire last night. All the scores have been double checked, and a couple of minor amendments made that didn’t affect the result (although I might have called the positions of the Rogers the wrong way around last night).
We had only one crew that made it around 15 points, that being runners-up Alan and Matt who unfortunately cocked up clue 4 by not reading the question correctly. Bad luck guys – you were so close to winning and denying Richard and Simon their hat-trick – yes that’s three years in a row that they’ve taken the victory – well done both (but someone please beat them next year J).
Rich and Will also came close, and I think probably were at all 14 locations that they visited, dropping one by not answering the question, and the other by recording everything in the vicinity except the kite mark number. Next time maybe.
Well done also to first novices Adam and Ollie, taking 4th place from the Freemans on the plot-time tie-break (and just missing third place on the same tie-break!)
Our introduction of classes for the first time didn’t change the result, but I think put a bit more pressure on the front runners and made the final scores closer. Feedback welcome!
For those interested in post event analysis, you’ll also see the shortest route that we found at the bottom, with a couple of slightly longer alternatives, around 15 clues. There were of course many other routes that you could (and did) take. No-one fancied clue 16 this year – perhaps the requirement to write an answer in Welsh put you off.
For those who visited clue 10 and were confused to find the yellow stake but with no tape – it looked like the attached on Tuesday night! All visitors to that clue had it marked right, as did those who visited clue 15 and found some recently added screws that made the answer ambiguous – anyone with 3 or 4 screws recorded was given the points for that one.
Once again we hope you had a great time, and we’ll see you soon in the lanes!
Rich and Eddie.

This year’s rally will have
This year’s rally will have a very different look from previous years.
It is the first round of the HRCR Historic Road Rally Championship 2020, and will run on the 1st February 2020.
The event is centred at Caerwent and is a day / evening event.
Approximately 30 Miles of special Tests, mixed with 60 miles of regularity and 40 road miles. The finish is at Ross Motor Club as always.
Scruitineering and noise will start at Caerwent in the morning around 9.00,with the 1st car being flagged away by the very first winner of the Traders at 12.30.
Tests and regularities in and around Caerwent will follow with a break/ rest halt around 16.30.
After some well-earned food and rest, three more tests in Caerwent, followed by regularities which will take you back to the finish in Ross-on –Wye at approximately 20.30 , where results, supper and awards will be presented.

The regs for the Hatsford
The regs for the Hatsford Targa Road Rally are published here, and also there is the link to the on-line entry system. Entries opened at 1800 on Sunday 16th June, and we had fifty paid up entries within the first week.
A reserve list has been opened and if there are any withdrawals, then the reserves will move up appropriately.
The event will be run is much the same way as last year’s successful event, with about 24 miles of competitive driving over six tests. The test surface is 99% grass, with the winner’s total competing time being over 73 minutes last year. This has to be great value! The tyre restrictions are the same as last year – we need to protect the land as much as possible.
There is a Clubman section and a National B event this year – see the classes ASR for info. Same entry fee. The event is a round of the Cotswold and ASWMC Targa Road Rally Championships, and you will have to enter the National B event if you wish to score points in these. Clubman entries must be by Ross members – join to do this event for just £10 per person.
A reminder…. An entry is not a completed entry until the entry fee is received. Although it appears that the entry fee has increased this year, you can reduce the amount back to last year’s level by supplying a marshal – cash back at documentation.
Please ensure you read ASR’s 10, 11 and 13 carefully before entering.
Any questions, please contact Simon or James, while marshal volunteers should contact Mike Wall. Details for all three are in the regs.

Entries for the Wye Valley are now closed. The running order for the entries will be drawn on Friday and published on Sunday morning at the event. If you wish to marshal, please contact the organisers
The event is being held at our usual Putley site near Ledbury, Herefordshire. As well as being a round of the British and BTRDA championships, it is a round of ASWMC, AWMMC, WAMC and the Cotswold Car Trial Championships. the event is being run as a dual permit event, so drivers can compete without the need for a competition licence. the event is also the Inter Association Car Trial this year, so the Regional Associations will be trying to gather their teams over the next four weeks or so.
