Ross & District Motor Sports Club runs 6 championships through the
course of the competition year...
Car Trials
The Spring Fling
and the Wye Valley are two Car Trials this year. Competing on grassy surfaces, cars have to
drive through sections set out on a hillside—it takes skill and
accurately to complete on the slippery slopes
Kyrle Classic Trophy Trial
The
Kyrle
Classic Trophy Trial has been in the
Association of Classic Trials Clubs
Calendar for twenty years and has been a popular round of their National
Championship since its debut in 1976. There are usually 14-18 Sections
with a variety of different surfaces to test your skills—think about
doing a hill start in a 1 in 4 on a greasy hill...if that sounds like an
interesting day out find out more.
Autotests - Summer & Winter
Summer - 6 grass autotests are run during the year and each one is part of
the Grass autotest Championship.
Winter—5 Tarmac autotests are run during the winter months all of which
qualify for Winter Autotest Championships.
Bluebell Run
The event is non competitive (a touring
assembly) and is intended as an opportunity for you to drive
your Pre-1986 pride and joy through picturesque parts of the
Royal Forest of Dean and the Welsh Marches. Younger, interesting
cars may be allowed.
NavEx and Night Nav's
5 Navigational exercises (NavEx's)
are run during the year. A NavEx is held on public roads for a maximum
of 12 cars. The two Competitors (Driver and Navigator) solve
navigational clues to find the correct route. These events are held in
the evening over about 50 miles and they last about 3 hours. Virtually
any standard car is suitable.
RosSolo
Solo is a fairly new discipline
in UK motorsport and R&DMSC was the second club in the country to
embrace this fantastic new event and ran it's first Solo in October
2003. A Solo is a contest of driving skill on short courses that
emphasise car handling and agility rather than speed or power.
Pinford Sporting Trial
Sporting Trials are a
development of Car Trials, and differ by virtue of both the terrain used
and the highly specialised nature of the cars. The venues used offer a
more arduous terrain than those used by Car Trials, the hills climbed by
Sporting Trials are often too steep or slippery even to walk up.
Ross Traders Historic Tour
The Ross Traders
Historic tour is a round of the
Historic Rally Car Register (HRCR) Clubmans championship. This
regularity rally for classics (upto 1976) includes some special tests on private land where you
can use your driving skill to compete against the clock and plenty of
regularity road mileage where you'll need to closely watch your average
speed whilst navigating your way around the map to find various control
points.
EcoRuns
EcoRuns are a test both
driver and Navigator. The goal is to navigate your way around a 60 mile
course, using the least amount of fuel, at 29 mph average—and just to
make things more interesting... after dark....
