EcoRun is a short hand for Economy
Run, which used to be boring daylight affairs at a 20 mph
average. We run our EcoRuns after dark and at 29 mph.
They attract people who want to try night navigation forma very
simple road book which the passenger can read to the driver,
e.g. " Half a miles, cross roads, left." So as well as
hot-shots trying to squeeze the last mile out of a litre of fuel
we get other crows on their first outing together, or their
first use of that car aft dark, or just keen for 0 miles of
country motoring away from the crowded roads they use to work
and back,
There are only two classes, petrol
and for diesel cars. The cars are filled up at the start,
caps sealed, and later refilled as the marshals watch at the
finish (if you have an electric vehicle which will average
almost 30 mph uphill and down for two hours on headlights, pleas
bring it along to impress us!)
Timing is straightforward from the
road book - you know when you're due at the start, at almost
every junction around the route and to the finish - but you'll
be penalised a tenth of a litre of fuel for every minute you're
late.
A comment heard at the end of one
of our runs "I enjoyed the steady driving, not like the haft
dozen stop plot sprint session on a NavEx. I really got
into the swing of this!"
